Miria is Atempo’s platform dedicated to the management of very large volumes of unstructured data, on September 30, 2021, is an opportunity to review the new features in this version and other recent versions.
With Geoffrey Bitard, Product Marketing Manager.***
The latest Atempo release of Miria -2021 R1- offers rapid disaster recovery to companies storing large volumes of data, at petascale or even exascale (Health, Research, HPC, etc.).
Traditional backup and disaster recovery solutions are often inadequate for these industries. In the event of a major disaster, organizations can sometimes wait for months to recover data and production – something wholly incompatible with business needs.
Snapstor allows you to reapply all permissions, recopy and synchronize exports and network shares at the end of each backup between primary or source storages to target or secondary storages.
In the event of a disaster, Snapstor allows very rapid recovery to an earlier version and provide end-users access to the backed-up data, ensuring rapid disaster recovery. Snapstor offers an alternative to imperfect replication solutions, which are often unable to provide access to real backed up data.
A genuine departure from traditional disaster recovery solutions with these immediate benefits:
Take the example of the healthcare sector: in the event of a disaster affecting a hospital, the waiting time for storage restoration is incompatible with vital data access (patient records, medical imagery etc.).
In genomic research, there are budgetary constraints making it impossible to shut down a genome sequencer. It is precisely in these industries that this advanced disaster recovery feature really comes into its own.
This video belows explains how Snapstor can provide continuity of activity for your organization.

Several developments to look forward to in the next release of Miria. Let’s have a look at the main ones:
Security: the S3 Object Lock on S3 cloud and object storages, making data fully immutable will be integrated into Miria. Vendor agnostic (compatible with all cloud providers), this feature aims to protect data against ransomware and encryption attacks. The data is protected when it lands on the target storage. The S3 Object Lock also meets the business needs regarding compliance.
Graphical interfaces: Atempo teams have pursued their efforts to make the interfaces more ergonomic and enhance the user experience. The next major release of Miria, expected in late 2021, will include a 100% web interface for increased simplicity and efficiency.
The analytics component with the imminent release of Miria for Analytics. This feature provides organizations a greater visibility and a better analysis on data distributed among internal and external storages. It will allow us to dissociate essential and high value data from non-essential or cold data, make the best decisions to reduce storage costs.

2021 has been a brilliant year for Miria with some major key features. Firstly, the cloud storage capacity/ source object has been extended. With its ability to manage secondary cloud storages as a data destination, Miria has been able to adapt to new uses and the use of these cloud storages as a data source, as well as evolving business needs towards “reverse cloud”.
In 2021, Miria completes its cloud source storage support offering by adding platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Storage and Swift, compatible with most of the cloud computing providers.
Then, the integrity of data in migration. For some industrial sectors where there are many legal restrictions in terms of data processing, guarantee the integrality during migration is no longer sufficient.
It would be necessary to justify full traceability with asynchronous data verification and provide an enriched report that would prove data integrity. Miria 2021 allows to choose an algorithm according to performance/integrity requirements.
Lastly, in 2021 Miria has extended its FastScan for Nutanix files feature. This unique technology improves incremental tasks instead of doing a full analysis of the filesystem. Miria launches the snapshots on the Nutanix platform to only consider the modified and incremented data.
This allows to reduce the time required to identify the changes and respect the backup windows, or an acceptable cut-over phase as part of migration projects, for example.
Moreover, Atempo teams have been working for many years to optimize interfaces, make them more ergonomic and deliver the best possible user experience. There are many improvements within the interfaces of Miria 2021 and innovative features such as metadata, previews, partial restorations, web connector, etc.
Miria is in a constant state of enhancement with upcoming versions which will include multi-lingual interfaces and documentation.
